Senior/Principal Civil EngineerPurpose & Scope of the RoleThis role offers the opportunity to join a growing civil engineering team based in either Edinburgh or Belfast, delivering projects across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and beyond. Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment, you will lead the design and delivery of civil infrastructure schemes while supporting the continued growth of regional capability.This is a varied and technically engaging position with clear opportunities for progression into leadership.Your Impact in this PositionYou will play a key role in delivering projects from concept through to completion, balancing technical excellence, commercial awareness, and client engagement. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining compliance with quality and safety standards.You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, contribute to business development activities, and support the mentoring and development of junior engineers.Core CapabilitiesTechnical Delivery & DesignLead civil engineering design using industry standards and best practiceProduce high-quality technical outputs across drainage, infrastructure, and site development projectsProject & Commercial ManagementManage project resources, budgets, and delivery programmes effectivelySupport fee proposals and monitor project profitabilityStakeholder EngagementBuild strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory authoritiesSecure approvals and represent the business professionally across projectsCollaboration & Team DevelopmentWork collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams across the UKMentor graduates, apprentices, and junior engineersQuality, Safety & Professional StandardsChampion health, safety, and technical excellenceEnsure compliance with all relevant standards, procedures, and quality requirementsSkills, Qualifications & ExperienceDegree-qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng or MEng)Approximately 5–10 years’ industry experienceChartered status, or working towards chartershipStrong knowledge of civil engineering design standards and best practiceExperience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, and Microsoft OfficeStrong communication skills and commercial awarenessProactive approach to professional development and team collaborationWorking EnvironmentThis is a hybrid role with flexibility around office location and home working, typically involving 2–3 days per week in the office. Candidates can be based in either the Edinburgh or Belfast office, with occasional travel across Scotland and Northern Ireland required to support projects and collaboration across teams.About the CompanyOur client is a leading global consultancy delivering engineering and technical services across the full project lifecycle.
