Housing Resolutions Officer (Temporary Contract)

Location: Wembley (Hybrid Working)Contract: Temporary – Immediate Start until at least OctoberHours: Monday to Friday, 36 hours per weekPay Rate:

  • £21.41 per hour PAYE
  • £28.19 per hour Umbrella

The Role

A London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Housing Resolutions Officer to join their Housing Needs Service on a temporary basis. The role will focus on supporting households in temporary accommodation and ensuring timely move-on into settled housing, in line with homelessness legislation and statutory guidance.

This is a hybrid role, with some on-site presence required in Wembley.

Job Purpose

You will provide comprehensive housing options advice to households living in temporary accommodation, promoting effective move-on into suitable settled housing options including the private rented sector, intermediate housing and social housing.

You will also:

  • Undertake suitability of accommodation reviews
  • Investigate fear of violence and domestic abuse cases
  • Manage tenancy enforcement activity
  • Work closely with accommodation providers and internal services
  • Support tenancy audits and promote effective management of temporary accommodation

Key Responsibilities

  • Visit households in temporary accommodation to provide housing options advice and manage expectations based on need, priority and affordability
  • Support households to engage with the Housing Register and bidding process in partnership with the Lettings team
  • Signpost and refer clients to relevant agencies including employment, training, children’s services, adult social care and supported housing
  • Provide advice on welfare reform, benefits and employment opportunities
  • Encourage compliance with licence and tenancy conditions and take enforcement action where serious breaches occur
  • Make legally compliant decisions on refusal of temporary accommodation, discharge of duty, appeals and reviews
  • Investigate domestic violence and fear of violence cases and manage safeguarding risks
  • Reduce use of high-cost emergency accommodation and promote value-for-money use of the TA budget
  • Carry out tenancy audits and investigate suspected abandonment, subletting, misuse or fraud
  • Respond to complaints, enquiries and correspondence from clients, MPs, elected members and the Ombudsman
  • Liaise with landlords and providers regarding disrepair, infestations and compliance issues
  • Ensure properties meet safety and compliance standards including gas and electrical certification
  • Maintain xwzovoh accurate records and produce reports to support service performance monitoring
  • Build strong working relationships with stakeholders to deliver high levels of customer satisfaction

Essential Requirements

  • Significant experience working in homelessness, housing options or temporary accommodation within a local authority
  • Strong working knowledge of Housing Act 1996 (as amended), homelessness legislation and Suitability Order
  • Confident decision-maker with excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, pressured environment
  • Basic DBS requirement
