Principal Planning Enforcement Officer

  • Location: Halifax HX1
  • Salary: £40 PAYE per hour
  • Job Type: Temporary, Full-time, Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced Principal Planning Enforcement Officer to address a backlog of enforcement cases and play a key role in the management and resolution of complex planning issues. This position offers hybrid working with flexible hours between 7.00am and 7.00pm.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead the investigation and resolution of complex, high-profile, and sensitive planning enforcement cases.
  • Undertake site visits, gather and assess evidence, and prepare formal enforcement notices.
  • Work closely with Legal Services to ensure compliance and enforcement actions are legally sound.
  • Support the Team Leader in daily management tasks, provide technical guidance, and mentor junior team members.
  • Contribute to service improvement and promote best practices within the team.
  • Act as a case officer for retrospective applications when relevant, and support the negotiation of acceptable planning permissions.
  • Represent the business at planning hearings/inquiries and in court.
  • Liaise with legal advisors and colleagues to coordinate the business's case.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in allied fields such as Environmental Health, Building Control, and Highways to deliver a unified approach to enforcement.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent professional experience.
  • Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) is desirable.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • Proven experience in planning enforcement and managing complex enforcement investigations.
  • Experience in representing at hearings, inquiries, and in court.
  • Strong mentoring, supervision, and management skills.
