Reed are currently working national security and fire specialist delivering design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and monitoring across multiple sectors.
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-driven and commercially aware Estimator to join the Fire & Security team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing incoming enquiries, reviewing client specifications, preparing accurate quotations, and supporting the wider operations team in securing profitable work. This role is critical in ensuring our clients receive timely, compliant, and competitive proposals across all active fire protection services.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Quotation Management
- Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications to understand project requirements.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for fire active protection solutions including emergency lighting
- Produce and issue quotations within agreed timeframes.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain up-to-date material costs and product information.
- Identify labour, materials, subcontractor requirements, and any project-specific risks.
Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Receive and manage incoming enquiries from clients, contractors, and internal teams.
- Provide clarification, technical information, and pricing breakdowns as required.
- Maintain strong professional relationships to support repeat business and customer satisfaction.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure all estimates meet relevant standards, regulations, and fire compliance requirements.
- Maintain detailed records of tender documents, revisions, and client communications.
- Support contract handovers by providing accurate information to the delivery/operations team.
Commercial Awareness
- Assess project profitability and adjust pricing strategies where appropriate.
- Highlight value-engineering opportunities and propose cost-effective solutions.
- Track quote conversions and assist with forecasting future workload.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Experience in an estimating role (preferably within fire protection, construction, or a related trade).
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, plans, and technical documentation.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent numeracy, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple enquiries simultaneously and prioritise workload.
Desirable
- Knowledge of fire protection products, legislation, and passive fire systems.
- Experience using estimating software or CRM systems.
- Understanding of building regulations and industry standards (e.g., BS, EN standards).
