Year 2 Class Teacher - Islington (September 2026 Start)
Are you an experienced KS1 Teacher looking for a rewarding role in a supportive and forward-thinking primary school?
We are delighted to be working with a welcoming two-form entry primary school in Islington, seeking a committed and experienced Year 2 Class Teacher to join their team for the full academic year from September 2026 to July 2027. The school has a strong community feel and is dedicated to delivering a high-quality, inclusive education where every child is supported to reach their full potential.
With a well-established two-form entry structure, you will benefit from shared planning, strong peer collaboration, and a supportive KS1 team. The Senior Leadership Team are approachable and place a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and professional development.
Role Overview
Position: Year 2 Class Teacher (KS1)Start Date: September 2026 - July 2027Location: IslingtonPay: MPS 1-6 Inner London (£206.95 - £268.21 per day, PAYE)Contract: Full-time, full academic year
Key Responsibilities
As a Year 2 Class Teacher, you will play a key role in preparing pupils for the end of Key Stage 1:
- Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the KS1 National Curriculum
- Preparing pupils for KS1 SATs, supporting both academic progress and wellbeing
- Delivering high-quality phonics and guided reading sessions
- Teaching core subjects (English, Maths, Science) with a focus on closing attainment gaps
- Assessing and tracking pupil progress to inform planning and targeted interventions
- Creating a structured, engaging classroom environment that promotes independence and resilience
- Managing behaviour effectively through clear routines and positive reinforcement
- Supporting pupils with SEN, EAL, and varying attainment levels
- Working collaboratively with your parallel Year 2 teacher to plan and share best practice
- Building strong relationships with parents and carers
- Contributing to the wider school community

- Have strong KS1 teaching experience, ideally within Year 2
- Be confident preparing pupils for KS1 SATs and securing strong outcomes
- Have a solid understanding of phonics and early reading
- Demonstrate strong behaviour management with a calm, consistent approach
- Be committed to raising attainment for all pupils
- Thrive in a collaborative, two-form entry environment
- Be proactive, reflective, and passionate about teaching
