About the role
Our client, a leader in the rail and infrastructure sector, is currently seeking a Civils Director to join their team in the Yorkshire/North of England region (Leeds/York preferred).
Key Responsibilities:
Building a Regional Business
Establish and grow a new Northern presence.
Develop and execute the regional growth strategy.
Build a high-performing engineering and project delivery team.
Create a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
Winning & Growing Clients
Identify and secure opportunities across rail and infrastructure markets.
Build long-term relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
Lead fee proposals, bids, negotiations, and framework pursuits.
Represent the business across industry events and networking forums.
Leading Project Delivery
Oversee the successful delivery of multidisciplinary rail and infrastructure projects.
Provide technical leadership and assurance across engineering outputs.
Act as CRE/CEM where required.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.
Commercial Leadership
Take ownership of regional financial performance.
Manage forecasting, resource planning, and recruitment.
Drive sustainable growth and profitability.
Support compliance with industry standards including RISQS and ISO requirements.
Developing People
Mentor engineers and future leaders.
Create career pathways and professional development opportunities.
Share technical expertise and promote engineering excellence across the business.
Job Requirements:
A strong track record within UK rail and infrastructure.
Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects.
Excellent commercial awareness and business development capability.
The confidence to build relationships and win work.
A natural ability to inspire and develop teams.
Strong technical credibility within civil and/or structural engineering.
Experience working within Network Rail standards and procedures.
CRE/CEM experience or equivalent leadership responsibility.
Essential Qualifications:
Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.
Chartered Engineer (CEng, MICE, IStructE) preferred, or significant progress towards chartership.
Strong knowledge of UK rail standards and infrastructure delivery.
Experience in engineering consultancy, client-side, or rail contracting environments.
