Job Overview
Great Western Hospital in Swindon is looking for dedicated and compassionate Registered General Nurses (RGNs) to join its acute hospital services. The role involves delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care within a fast‑paced NHS environment, working closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective clinical care.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver safe, effective nursing care in line with NMC standards and Trust policies
• Carry out patient assessments and develop, implement, and review individual care plans
• Administer medication safely and accurately
• Monitor, record, and report changes in patients’ conditions
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and colleagues
• Support discharge planning and continuity of care
• Promote patient dignity, safety, and wellbeing at all times
• Supervise and support Healthcare Assistants and student nurses when required
• Adhere to infection control, safeguarding, and health and safety procedures
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
• Registered General Nurse with valid NMC registration
• Ability to work effectively in an acute hospital setting
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Good clinical judgement and organisational skills
• Commitment to delivering high standards of patient care
• Flexibility to work shifts, including nights and weekends
Desirable Criteria
• Previous NHS or acute ward experience
• Experience in medical, surgical, or specialty wards
• Knowledge of NHS clinical governance and safeguarding
• Mentorship or practice assessor experience
