General Foreman

General Foreman Contract Type: Freelance Sector: Civil Engineering / Infrastructure We’re looking to strengthen our site operations team on a live civil engineering scheme in the Thames Valley region, with the appointment of an experienced General Foreman. Role Overview: You’ll work closely with the Project Manager and Contracts Manager to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of all site activities. This role will suit someone with strong leadership and coordination skills, confident in managing multiple subcontractors and ensuring works are delivered to programme and specification. Key Responsibilities: * Coordinate and supervise day-to-day site operations in line with the construction programme. * Monitor daily outputs and report progress to the Project Manager. * Ensure all site operatives and subcontractors are suitably trained and competent. * Lead on-site safety culture - delivering inductions, toolbox talks, and regular SHE reviews. * Work with the PM to plan work sequences, identify risks, and optimise programme delivery. * Maintain quality control standards and ensure a compliant, high-quality product is achieved. * Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and client representatives as required. * Record resources, track production, and report on progress and potential improvements. Essential: * Proven experience as a General Foreman or Site Supervisor in civil engineering or infrastructure works. * Strong understanding of construction methodology and engineering principles. * Excellent knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards (IOSH or equivalent). * Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and programmes. Desirable: * HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering. * Lantra 12a/b Traffic Management qualification. * TSCO (Traffic Safety Control Officer) certification. * Previous experience supervising civil projects on highways, utilities, or coastal works.
