Mechanical Technician (refrigeration cold rooms, Freezers)

The Role The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, fault finding, and emergency repair of production machinery, utilities, and site infrastructure. The role requires a strong focus on food safety, hygiene, and Health & Safety compliance, ensuring minimal downtime and continuous production. Key Responsibilities Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and packaging equipment Respond promptly to breakdowns and complete effective emergency repairs Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and basic PLC faults Maintain cold storage, blast freezing equipment, boilers, air compressors and refrigeration systems Ensure all maintenance work complies with food safety, hygiene and legal standards Maintain accurate maintenance records and support internal and external audits Coordinate and supervise external contractors working on siteCandidate Requirements The ideal candidate will be a proactive and reliable maintenance professional with experience in a manufacturing or food production environment. Essential skills and experience: Mechanical or electrical maintenance experience within manufacturing or food production Refrigeration knowledge, including cold rooms and freezers (F-Gas systems such as R404A / R448A preferred) Experience maintaining boilers and compressed air systems Basic PLC knowledge (Siemens or Mitsubishi preferred) Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills Ability to work effectively under pressure Good communication and teamwork skillsDesirable qualifications: Level 2/3 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Electrical Installation qualification (18th Edition) F-Gas certification Forklift Truck (FLT) licence Mandarin language skills (advantageous but not essential)Additional Information Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or provide on-call support when required This is a fully on-site role within a food manufacturing environmentWhat's on Offer Competitive salary up to £42,000 per year Full-time, permanent position Secure role within a growing manufacturing business Supportive working environment with opportunities for development
