Reporting into the Fleet Manager, you will take full technical responsibility for a portfolio of vessels, ensuring they are operated safely, efficiently and in full compliance with international maritime regulations. Acting as the primary shore-based contact for your assigned fleet, you will work closely with vessel crews, clients and internal departments to deliver high standards of technical management, maintenance planning and operational performance. This is a varied role offering a mix of technical oversight, project management and stakeholder engagement within a fast-paced global environment.ResponsibilitiesTake overall technical responsibility for a fleet of assigned vessels, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient operations.Plan, coordinate and oversee vessel maintenance, repairs, dry dockings, modifications and statutory surveys.Ensure compliance with Flag State, Class, statutory and company management system requirements.Monitor vessel technical performance, including fuel efficiency, machinery reliability and maintenance trends, implementing corrective actions where required.Manage planned maintenance systems, ensuring maintenance schedules, repair histories and technical records remain accurate and up to date.Build strong relationships with Masters, Chief Engineers and onboard teams, providing technical guidance and operational support.Liaise directly with vessel owners and clients, providing regular technical updates, budget reporting and performance reviews.Prepare vessels for Port State Control, Flag State, Class and third-party inspections, working alongside Marine and Quality teams to achieve successful outcomes.Manage technical budgets and vessel expenditure, ensuring costs remain controlled and client approvals are obtained where required.Participate in senior officer selection, performance reviews and the ongoing development of onboard technical teams.Identify technical risks, investigate defects and ensure issues affecting safety, environmental performance or operational reliability are addressed promptly.Conduct regular vessel visits to assess technical condition, maintenance standards and onboard safety culture.RequirementsA recognised Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent maritime qualification.Previous sailing experience as a senior engineering officer or relevant shore-based technical management experience.Strong understanding of vessel maintenance, dry docking, Class and statutory compliance.Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships across multiple stakeholders.Commercial awareness with experience managing technical budgets and controlling vessel expenditure.Ability to manage multiple priorities across several vessels within a busy operational environment.Desirable:Previous experience as a Fleet Superintendent or Technical Superintendent.Experience within an international ship management organisation.Membership of IMarEST or an equivalent recognised professional body.Experience using planned maintenance systems such as ShipSure, AMOS or similar.
