About the role

Unqualified Teacher - Portsmouth Prospero Teaching is currently seeking confident and motivated Unqualified Teachers to support secondary schools throughout Portsmouth. This role offers the same responsibilities as cover supervision and is ideal for individuals who are comfortable leading a classroom and want to gain hands‑on experience in education without holding QTS. You will take responsibility for classes during teacher absence, deliver lesson content that has already been prepared, and ensure pupils remain focused and engaged. This role works particularly well for graduates, aspiring teachers, teaching assistants, tutors, mentors, youth workers, or coaches who are looking to progress within education. Positions are available on a full‑time basis, as well as flexible day‑to‑day cover, depending on your availability and preferences. The Role: Lead lessons using pre‑planned materials Manage the classroom during teacher absence Encourage students to stay on task and meet lesson expectations Support pupils with questions and classwork where appropriate Deliver cover across multiple subjects as required Work with students across KS3 & KS4 Follow school safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times Ideal Candidate: Experience working with young people (e.g. schools, youth work, tutoring, mentoring, coaching) Confident managing behaviour and leading groups Strong communication and organisational skills Calm, adaptable, and reliable Comfortable working across a range of subjects Graduates and aspiring teachers are strongly encouraged to apply Contract Details: Position: Unqualified Teacher Location: Portsmouth Start Date: ASAP Working Pattern: Full‑time, part‑time, or day‑to‑day Pay: Up to £130 per day Key Stages: KS3-KS4 Experience, Training & Safeguarding: Experience working with young people is essential Classroom or behaviour‑management experience is beneficial Safeguarding training can be provided Eligibility: Right to work in the UK Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) Two professional references What Prospero Teaching Offers: Free accredited CPD, including safeguarding & behaviour management Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant Flexible work to suit your availability Opportunities for long‑term and permanent roles Clear pathways into teacher training or school‑based careersIf you're confident leading a classroom and looking for valuable school‑based experience in Portsmouth, we would love to hear from you.
