SEND Specialist Outreach Worker (Cognition & Learning Specialism)
Location: Halifax (Hybrid working – central Halifax base)
Contract: Initial 3 months (with potential extension)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay: £110 per day (Umbrella)

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled SEND Specialist Outreach Worker with a strong Cognition & Learning (C&L) specialism to support children and young people (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Calderdale.
This role is focused on delivering high-quality targeted interventions, building capacity in schools, and improving outcomes for learners with complex learning needs such as:
Dyslexia
Working memory difficulties
Processing and cognitive delay needs
Other cognition and learning barriersYou will work across a hybrid model, based primarily in central Halifax, with a combination of school-based work, home working, and extensive travel across settings.
Key Responsibilities
Provide ongoing outreach support to schools for CYP with SEND (with a focus on C&L needs)
Deliver, model, and evaluate targeted interventions for individuals and small groups
Support schools in implementing and reviewing graduated SEND support cycles (Assess, Plan, Do, Review)
Work directly with CYP and families to co-produce effective strategies
Undertake specialist assessments within your area of expertise
Provide training, advice, and practical support to school staff
Troubleshoot barriers to learning and support schools in resolving SEND-related challenges
Contribute to Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments and reviews
Maintain accurate records, reports, and casework information
Signpost families and schools to relevant support services
Contribute to borough-wide SEND strategy and service development
Support continuous professional development across schools and settingsRequirements
Essential:
Relevant qualification in SEND or related field
Level 3 qualification or equivalent (e.g. A Levels, NVQ Level 3, Advanced Apprenticeship)
Strong specialism in Cognition & Learning (C&L)
Experience delivering interventions for CYP with SEND
Knowledge of dyslexia, working memory, and cognitive processing difficulties
Understanding of SEND legislation (Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice 2015, Equality Act 2010)
Experience working in educational settings (school, early years, or similar)
Ability to work directly with CYP and families
Strong communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills
Ability to work independently and manage a caseload
Safeguarding This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check including Children’s Barred List clearance
