Role description:
The company is looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Advanced Engineering team in Crawley. Working closely under the direct guidance of the senior engineers, the primary function of this role is to support the full mechanical product design cycle-from initial concept generation and photorealistic rendering to detailed drawing packages, rapid prototyping, and physical testing for custom display hardware, control panels, and ODM+ enclosures.
Key Responsibilities:
• CAD & Mechanical Design: Support the development of robust 3D CAD models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawing packages using SolidWorks for sheet metal parts, custom enclosures, and display assemblies.
• Visual Concepts & Rendering: Produce high-quality photorealistic 3D renders and visual assets for product concepts, customer proposals, marketing collateral, and exhibition hardware.
• Prototyping & Assembly: Assist in hands-on rapid prototyping activities, including 3D printing, component preparation, adhesive/foam application, and physical assembly fit-checks in the workshop
• Validation & Testing: Support physical validation testing (such as thermal monitoring, drop testing, and mechanical fit checks) on early-stage prototype (EVT/DVT) builds.
• Design Documentation: Assist in generating and maintaining structured engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), assembly notes, specification sheets, and Engineering Change Notice (ECNs).
• Supplier & Fabrication Liaison: Help communicate with component suppliers and fabrication vendors to request technical quotes, specify off-the-shelf parts, and track sample delivery lead times.
• Design Reviews & Collaboration: Attend project status meetings, internal design reviews, and cross-functional alignment sessions with Sales, support, operations, and global manufacturing teams.
• Standards & Procedures: Learn and follow company standard operating procedures, revision control rules, and mechanical design guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with a genuine passion for physical product design, electronics packaging, and mechanical enclosures.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD modelling software and 2D drafting standards gained through degree studies, placements, or project work.
• Bonus: Experience or proficiency with 3D rendering software (e.g., SolidWorks Visualize, or similar) to create photorealistic marketing and client visuals.
• Bonus: Hands-on experience operating 3D printers and using workshop rapid prototyping tools.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and professionally.
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a methodical approach to file management and revision tracking.
• A collaborative team player eager to take direction, ask questions, and grow under senior mentorship
