We’re looking for a skilled and detail-focused Mechanical Assembly Technician to join a cutting-edge manufacturing business based in Hailsham. Working within a cleanroom and high-technology environment, you’ll play a key role in the assembly and testing of precision-engineered Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) systems used across some of the world’s most advanced research and engineering sectors.

Location: Hailsham, East Sussex
You will be responsible for assembling complex mechanical and electrical components to exact engineering standards, ensuring all products meet strict cleanroom and quality requirements.
Duties will include:
* Mechanical and electrical assembly from engineering drawings and specifications
* Building complex UHV manipulation and sample-handling systems
* Specialist wiring and electrical testing
* Maintaining strict cleanroom and UHV cleanliness standards
* Supporting new product introduction into manufacturing
* Updating manufacturing instructions and technical documentation
* Recording test data, serial numbers, and quality information accurately
* Supporting continuous improvement and production efficiency
* Occasional travel to customer sites or company events where required
What We’re Looking For
* Mechanical Engineering qualification, such as HNC/HND, Level 3, Apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on experience
* Strong mechanical assembly and precision hand-fitting skills
* Previous experience within precision engineering, cleanroom, or high-technology manufacturing environments
* Experience within low-volume or bespoke manufacturing environments preferred
* Knowledge of specialist wiring and testing procedures advantageous
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining exceptional quality standards
Knowledge of Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV), electron optics, or ion optics technology would be highly advantageous, although not essential.
