About the Role
21HSC are recruiting for a Locum Support Worker to provide short-term cover for theAsylum/Refugee Teamfor around 3 months.
This is a varied and rewarding role focused on supporting individuals and families- to integrate into the local community and access essential services. You will play a key role in helping people navigate systems, attend appointments, and build independence within Midlothian and surrounding areas.
Working both independently and alongside wider services, you will provide practical, person-centred support and advocacy to ensure individuals feel informed, empowered, and connected.
Role and Responsibilities
Support individuals and families with integration-related tasks within the community.
Assist clients with registering with GP services and accessing healthcare.
Accompany individuals to appointments where required.
Provide general orientation and guidance within Midlothian and Edinburgh.
Signpost clients to relevant local services and community resources.
Advocate on behalf of individuals to ensure their needs are met.
Maintain accurate records and update databases in line with service requirements.
Undertake administrative duties, including use of Excel and internal systems.
Essential Skills and Attributes
Experience working with adults and/or families in a support-based role.
Knowledge of local services and community resources within Midlothian and/or Edinburgh.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Empathy and understanding of poverty and challenges faced by migrant communities.
Ability to manage a varied workload and work independently.
Competent IT skills, including experience using Excel and databases.
Ability to advocate effectively on behalf of service users.
Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
Desirable
Multilingual skills are welcomed (not essential) ability to communicate with clients in other languages is beneficial, though formal translation is not required.
