Gastroenterology & GIM Consultant - Relocation to Ireland
About the role
We are seeking a dual-trained Consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine (GIM) to join a busy and well-structured acute hospital service in Limerick.
This role is specifically suited to candidates who have completed formal dual training in Gastroenterology and GIM, and who are comfortable contributing to the acute medical take.
You will work as part of a collaborative consultant body, delivering specialist Gastroenterology services while also playing a key role in the General Internal Medicine on-call rota (1:18).
Given the scarcity of dual-trained profiles, this is a highly valued and strategically important appointment within the service.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide Consultant-level care in Gastroenterology, including outpatient and inpatient services
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures
- Participate in the General Internal Medicine on-call rota (1:18)
- Contribute to the acute medical take and management of complex medical patients
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across medical specialties
- Support teaching and supervision of NCHDs
- Participate in audit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives
Requirements
- Formal dual training in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine
- Specialist registration (or eligibility) with the Irish Medical Council (IMC)
- Experience at Consultant level or equivalent
- Strong endoscopy experience and procedural competency
- Excellent communication and team-working skills

- Salary: €235,862 – €283,318 per annum
- 37-hour working week
- Additional pay for on-call and extra hours
