- £55,000 Benefits ?? Day Shift | Permanent A well-established manufacturing business in Lydney, Gloucestershir e is seeking a Controls Engineer to join their engineering team on a day shift basis .
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced automation or controls specialist who enjoys working across projects, upgrades, and continuous improvement within a modern industrial environment.
The Role As a Controls Engineer , you will be responsible for the design, development, and support of PLC-controlled systems across the site.
You'll work on projects from concept through to commissioning while also supporting fault-finding, upgrades, and safety improvements to keep production running efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities Specify, program, modify and test PLC systems (Siemens TIA Portal / Step7, Mitsubishi, Beckhoff).
Develop and maintain HMI/SCADA systems , data acquisition, alarms, diagnostics, and performance dashboards.
Design and implement functional safety architectures including safety PLCs, light curtains, scanners/radar, and machine interlocks.
Produce safety documentation including risk assessments, Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS), validation plans, and proof testing aligned with ISO 13849 / IEC 62061.
Troubleshoot complex faults across PLC, electrical systems, sensors, and communications networks .
Lead improvements to machine safety, throughput, and reliability including infeed systems, door interlocks, and safety zoning.
Requirements To be successful in this role you will ideally have: Proven experience with PLC programming and commissioning .
Experience with Siemens TIA Portal / Step7 and Mitsubishi GX Developer (Beckhoff TwinCAT advantageous).
Strong knowledge of Ladder Logic and STL programming .
Experience designing and supporting HMI/SCADA systems .
HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Controls, or Mechatronics (or relevant experience). xwzovoh
