Autism Support Assistant

Job Title: Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Oldham Contract Type: Full-time, Term-time (with potential to become permanent) Start Date: September About the Role We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming educational setting in Oldham from September. In this role, you will support students aged 16–19 with Autism, providing both 1:1 and in-class support to help them engage with learning and develop independence within a structured and supportive environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional needs, even without formal qualifications. Key Responsibilities * Provide dedicated 1:1 support to students with Autism * Support students throughout the school day, including routines and transitions * Assist with classroom activities and learning tasks * Help develop students’ social, emotional, and communication skills * Adapt resources and approaches to meet individual learning needs * Work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to deliver tailored support * Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment About You * A genuine interest in supporting young people with SEN, particularly Autism * Patient, empathetic, and resilient with a calm and positive approach * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to build trust and rapport with students * Transferable experience (e.g. care work, youth work, support roles) is highly valued * Previous experience in education is beneficial but not essential * A willingness to learn and develop within an SEN setting This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in young people’s lives while gaining valuable experience in a supportive educational environment
