Hospital Principal Optometrist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8A (1.0wte) Optometrist to join the Optometry Team within the Hospital Eye Service at the National Treatment Centre Highland (NTC‑H) in Inverness.

The successful candidate will work within the Optometry Team to deliver a range of specialist clinics in the NTC‑H and across Highland, Orkney and the Western Isles in collaboration with ophthalmology, orthoptic and nursing colleagues. They will provide clinical leadership in an agreed clinical area(s) with the Head of Service(s), and be expected to travel to peripheral parts of the Highlands, including Wick, Portree and Fort William, as well as to the Island Health Boards of Orkney and the Western Isles, which may involve overnight stays. A valid driving licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver specialist optometry clinics across the NTC‑H and the Highlands.
• Collaborate with ophthalmology, orthoptics and nursing teams.
• Provide clinical leadership in specified clinical area(s).
• Travel to peripheral and island locations as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years post‑qualification experience within a Hospital Eye Service.
• Registered optometrist with the General Optical Council.
• Post‑graduate qualifications in relevant clinical area(s).
• Valid driving licence to facilitate travel.
