Intermediate/Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer
Location: Cardiff

The Opportunity
We're looking for an Intermediate or Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join a growing in-house design team delivering projects across the commercial, industrial, healthcare, education and public sectors.
This role is ideal for an ambitious Intermediate Engineer looking to progress their career or a Senior Engineer seeking greater responsibility within a growing and forward-thinking business.
You'll have the opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects from concept through to completion, helping to deliver innovative, practical and compliant mechanical building services designs.
The Role
Working alongside electrical engineers, project managers, architects and clients, you'll be responsible for producing high-quality mechanical building services designs across all RIBA stages.
Depending on your experience, you'll also have the opportunity to provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers and support the continued growth of the design team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design mechanical building services systems from concept through to detailed design.
- Carry out heating and cooling load calculations.
- Design LTHW and CHW systems.
- Complete pipe sizing and hydraulic calculations.
- Select and specify HVAC systems.
- Design plantrooms and select mechanical equipment.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications and schedules.
- Coordinate designs with architectural, structural and electrical disciplines.
- Attend client, design and site meetings.
- Ensure designs comply with Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry best practice.
- Support projects through construction and commissioning.
- Review technical submissions and respond to contractor queries.
Skills & Experience
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
- Experience within a Building Services Consultancy or Design & Build environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
- Experience using MagiCAD or similar.
- Competent using Hevacomp or equivalent mechanical design software.
- Experience using IES VE or TAS for thermal modelling.
- Strong understanding of:
- Heating and cooling load calculations
- LTHW and CHW systems
- Pipe sizing and hydraulic calculations
- Public health services
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Membership of, or working towards, CIBSE or IMechE.
- Experience with energy modelling.
- Knowledge of BREEAM and low-carbon building design.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers.
Software Experience
Experience with some or all of the following is preferred:
- Autodesk Revit
- MagiCAD
- Hevacomp
- IES VE and/or TAS
- AutoCAD
- Microsoft Office
