If you’re a hands‑on engineer who takes pride in keeping machinery running safely, smoothly and efficiently, this Shift Engineer role puts you right at the centre of our production operation. You’ll ensure equipment reliability, support continuous improvement, and help maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene and compliance.
The role
As a Shift Engineer, you’ll carry out essential maintenance, repairs and engineering tasks across a wide range of equipment — electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration, heating, water systems and more. You’ll also support the installation and commissioning of new machinery, ensuring everything is safe, compliant and ready for production.
You’ll work closely with Production and other departments to minimise downtime, improve performance and deliver excellent service.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Standards — Maintain a clean, tidy and secure engineering workshop.
Tool Control — Keep a full, clean and compliant inventory of tools within your toolbox.
Contractor Permits — Issue permits and support safe contractor management.
Workmate Task Execution — Complete daily engineering tasks to target, ensuring accurate logging.
Engineering Quality — Ensure all work meets food safety, hygiene, quality and H&S standards.
Planned Maintenance — Carry out PM tasks on plant, machinery and buildings, communicating with Production as needed.
Cross‑Functional Support — Work with other departments to deliver excellent customer service and meet statutory requirements.
Plant & Equipment Care — Diagnose faults, repair breakdowns and maintain a wide range of engineering systems.
New Installations — Assist with installation, commissioning and maintenance of new equipment.
Qualifications
GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Math's
Engineering Qualification required - Electrical/Mechanical or Multiskilled
Level 2 Food Hygiene Training
HACCP awareness
Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment (desirable)
