About the role
We are seeking an experienced Field Quality Engineer (M&E) to lead and manage quality assurance and quality control activities across mechanical and electrical packages on complex construction projects.The primary objective of this role is to minimise defects, rework, and commissioning delays, while ensuring full compliance with specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements, ultimately driving client satisfaction and asset reliability. Operating with a high level of autonomy, you will oversee quality across the full project lifecycle from design and installation through to testing, commissioning and handover.
Key Responsibilities
M&E Quality Management & Compliance
* Implement and manage the Project Quality Plan, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and quality procedures
* Ensure compliance with technical specifications, drawings and statutory regulations
* Oversee quality across mechanical, electrical, BMS, ICT and specialist systems
* Enforce adherence to industry standards (e.g. BS, EN, IEC, CIBSE, ASHRAE, HTM)
* Lead quality audits (internal, subcontractor and client) and ensure timely close-out
* Stop works where quality risks or non-conformances are identified
Non-Conformance & Corrective Action
* Identify, raise and manage NCRs, defects and quality issues
* Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventative actions
* Monitor trends in defects, rework and failed inspections
* Ensure all issues are resolved without impacting commissioning or handover milestones
Materials, Equipment & Supply Chain Quality
* Inspect and approve incoming M&E materials, plant and equipment prior to installation
* Verify compliance with approved submittals, datasheets and certifications
* Manage subcontractor and supplier quality performance, including KPIs
* Coordinate FATs, SATs, and specialist inspections
* Support resolution of supplier non-conformance, warranty and cost recovery issues
Testing, Commissioning & Handover
* Ensure all inspection, testing, and commissioning activities are planned, witnessed, and recorded
* Verify commissioning documentation, certification, and test results
* Support system readiness reviews, IST and client witnessing
* Ensure accurate and complete O&M manuals and handover documentation
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
* Track and report on key quality KPIs (defects, NCRs, rework, right-first-time metrics)
* Produce reports for project teams, senior management and clients
* Present quality performance, risks and improvement plans in project meetings
Continuous Improvement & Technical Support
* Promote best practice and right-first-time installation
* Support design reviews, technical queries (TQs) and change management
* Drive process improvements and implement lessons learned across projects
Skills & Competencies
* Strong knowledge of M&E construction quality systems and inspection processes
* Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and commissioning data
