Job Purpose
The post-holder is expected to uphold and actively promote the ethos of the School. The Teacher of Drama reports to the Head of Drama and is ultimately accountable to the Headmaster. The focus of the role is to provide teaching of the highest quality and to contribute enthusiastically to the curricular and co-curricular life of the Drama Department. This will support the School in delivering an outstanding drama education and a vibrant programme of productions and performance opportunities that enable pupils to achieve their full creative potential.
General Description and Responsibilities
In addition to fulfilling teacher and tutor responsibilities, the Teacher of Drama will also undertake the following responsibilities:
Teaching and LearningDeliver high-quality, engaging Drama lessons across all ages and abilities as required.
Maintain high standards of teaching, learning and dramatic performance.
Plan and prepare lessons in line with departmental schemes of work and School expectations.
Monitor, assess and record student progress and achievement, providing effective feedback to support improvement.
Contribute to appropriate assessment, reporting and examination procedures.
Promote innovative approaches to teaching and learning that inspire creativity, confidence and a love of Drama.
Create a positive, inclusive and creative learning environment where all pupils are encouraged to participate and excel.
Contribute to the development and review of schemes of work, teaching resources and curriculum materials for all age groups.
Work collaboratively with the Head of Drama and departmental colleagues to maintain consistently high standards.
Support the effective organisation and care of departmental resources, costumes, props, technical equipment and performance spaces.
Follow departmental policies, procedures and theatre-specific Health and Safety requirements.
Communicate effectively with parents, where appropriate, regarding pupil progress, curriculum matters and participation in Drama activities.
Contribute actively to the School's programme of drama productions throughout the academic year.
Support and, where appropriate, lead rehearsals, workshops, clubs, auditions and performance activities.
Contribute to the department's involvement in assemblies, open mornings, community events and other School occasions.
Encourage broad participation in Drama through clubs, productions and enrichment opportunities.
Support links with local theatres, performing arts organisations and the wider community where appropriate.
Complete departmental administration relating to teaching, assessment, examinations, rehearsals and productions as required.
Maintain accurate records relating to pupil progress, assessment and participation.
Support the planning and coordination of departmental events within the School calendar.
Assist with the preparation, organisation and return of resources and performance materials.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across the School to promote interdisciplinary learning and the performing arts.
Engage positively in appraisal, induction and professional development.
Contribute positively to the wider co-curricular life of the School.
Uphold safeguarding, child protection and Health and Safety responsibilities at all times.
Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Head of Drama, Deputy Head or Headmaster.
Actively contribute to the ethos and values of the School.
Maintain positive and professional relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
Demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism and conduct.
Adhere to all School policies, including safeguarding, child protection and Health and Safety.
Support the wider life of the School through co-curricular activities and performances.

Undertake duties appropriate to the role in line with School expectations.

Education, Training and Qualifications
Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline.
PGCE/PGDE qualification.
Eligible for registration with GTCS.
GTCS registered.
Evidence of continued professional development.
Experience
Experience of teaching across the full age and ability range of education.
Experience or understanding of pastoral support.
Experience in the use of ICT in a classroom with the ability to impart that knowledge to others.
Experience of assisting in the development of dramatic productions
Experience of teaching or knowledge of Early Years, Middle Years and IB curriculum.
Experience of leading the delivery of dramatic productions
Experience of using data to track pupil progress.
Experience of inquiry or concept-based learning.
