Trainee / Assistant Accountant – Cardiff (ACCA / CIMA Study Support) Southwest Cardiff (Hybrid – mainly office-based with 1-day WFH after probation) Salary: £32,000 - £37,500 DOE Full-time, 40 hours/week (flexible start/finish times) Are you an ambitious accounting professional looking to take the next step in your career? Our client, a successful and growing SME based on the outskirts of Cardiff, is looking for a Trainee / Assistant Accountant to join their team. This is not your typical trainee role, you will be the sole finance presence on site, working closely with an experienced external Finance Director. Over time, the role offers the opportunity to become the number one finance person in the business, taking full ownership of the finance function and supporting key commercial decisions. What You’ll Be Doing: Preparing, examining, and analysing financial statements and management accounts Managing accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Processing weekly payroll for circa 50 employees using Sage Payroll Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities Reconciling accounts and maintaining detailed ledgers Supporting month-end and year-end closing procedures Liaising with external auditors and providing necessary documentation Developing more commercial reporting to help directors make key business decisions About You: Some previous accounts or finance experience is essential Currently studying or keen to study ACCA or CIMA (full study support provided) Confident working independently, making decisions, and driving finance initiatives Strong Excel skills and experience with Sage 50 or similar accounting software Organised, detail-oriented, and proactive A commercial mindset or desire to develop one What’s on Offer: Full ACCA or CIMA study support, including paid time off for exams Opportunity to grow into a lead finance role in a supportive SME environment Exposure to multiple areas of the business including payroll, HR, and commercial operations Flexible working hours and hybrid working (1 day) after probation 25 days annual leave + bank holidays Pension, death in service, and on-site parking Modern, friendly office environment This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to take ownership of their role, develop their finance career, and make a real impact in a growing business.
