HGV/Plant Mechanic

HGV Plant Mechanic  Location: Leicestershire Hours: 37 hours per week Pay Rate: £23.54 PAYE per hour | £30.00 Umbrella per hour (inc Holiday) Contract: Temporary Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced HGV Plant Mechanic / Light & Heavy Vehicle Technician on behalf of a local authority within their Environment and Transport department. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanic to join a busy Transport Operations team, maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of vehicles and plant equipment. Key Responsibilities Carry out servicing, maintenance, inspections, and repairs on light and heavy vehicles, plant, and passenger transport vehicles Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment Conduct MOT preparation and testing in line with DVSA standards Recover defective or damaged vehicles when required Complete accurate records including worksheets, inspection reports, and compliance documentation Ensure all work is completed to high safety and quality standards Support apprentices and contribute to team development Maintain tools and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition Essential Requirements City & Guilds qualification in Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) Proven experience working in a fleet workshop or garage environment Strong knowledge of HGVs, light vehicles, and/or plant machinery Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs independently Full UK driving licence Understanding of current Health & Safety legislation Desirable Skills & Qualifications MOT Tester Licence HGV Licence (Category C or C+E) or willingness to obtain Experience with plant equipment repairs IT literacy (e.g. Microsoft Office) Continuous professional development and relevant certifications Key Skills Strong problem-solving and diagnostic ability Excellent organisational and time management skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Effective communication and teamwork skills Additional Information Occasional out-of-hours work may be required Participation in standby rota may be necessary Ongoing training and development opportunities available If you are an experienced HGV or Plant Mechanic looking for your next temporary opportunity, apply now by contacting Prakash by emailing (url removed) or call (phone number removed)
