Housing Support Worker (Grade 5)
Location: Manchester, Lancashire, M8
Pay rate: £15.43 per hour
Contract: Fixed term until September 2026 (possible extension)
Hours: Full time – 35 hours per week
Working pattern: 9:00am – 2:30pm
Driving licence: Essential
About the role
An opportunity has arisen for a Housing Support Worker (Grade 5) to join the Homelessness Service within the Directorate for Families, Health and Wellbeing, covering North Manchester.
The role involves providing high-quality, flexible outreach support to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, many of whom may have multiple and complex needs. Support is delivered primarily within customers’ accommodation and across community-based venues local to the household.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a lead professional / key worker, working collaboratively with customers and partner agencies
- Assess customer needs, support prioritisation of issues, and agree streamlined, outcome-focused action plans
- Support customers to identify and achieve realistic goals, promoting independence and resilience
- Build effective professional relationships and appropriately challenge behaviours that may undermine progress
- Deliver personalised interventions focused on skills development and behavioural change
- Monitor and advise on rent accounts, affordability and personal budgeting, highlighting risks of non-payment
- Support customers throughout the rehousing process, helping to minimise time spent in temporary accommodation
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and contribute to service performance reporting
- Work effectively as part of a team, sharing best practice and supporting service objectives
About you
- Experience working with vulnerable people, homelessness, or individuals with complex needs
- Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and engage effectively with partner agencies
- Confident in adopting a flexible, assertive and person-centred approach
- A full driving licence is essential
