About the role
Operational Cyber Software Engineer Locations: Gloucester, Manchester or London (onsite) Salary: £60,000 - £83,000 excellent benefits Are you a Software Engineer with a passion for solving complex technical challenges? Do you enjoy working with secure systems, low-level technologies and cutting-edge cyber capabilities? We're looking for Operational Cyber Software Engineers to join a highly skilled team delivering mission-critical capabilities across some of the UK's most challenging cyber and national security programmes. In this role, you'll design, develop and test high-assurance software solutions, working alongside industry experts in software engineering, vulnerability research and cyber security. You'll have the opportunity to work across a variety of technologies and platforms while contributing to projects that have a real-world impact. What you'll be doing: Designing and developing secure, high-quality software solutions. Delivering robust and well-tested code using modern development practices. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers. Identifying security risks during design and implementation and developing appropriate mitigations. Working with emerging technologies and adapting to new tools, languages and techniques. Contributing to continuous integration and software assurance activities. What we're looking for: Commercial experience in software engineering. Strong programming skills in at least one language such as C++, Java or C#. Experience with utility or scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript or PowerShell. Knowledge of Linux, Windows or multiple operating systems. Experience with development tools, source control, testing and CI/CD practices. An understanding of secure or high-assurance software development principles. Strong problem-solving and communication skills. The ability to learn new technologies quickly and work effectively within technical teams. Desirable experience: Cyber security or secure systems development. Low-level software engineering or vulnerability research. Reverse engineering or security-focused development. Experience working within defence, national security or highly regulated environments. What's on offer? Dedicated training budget in your first year.
