We enjoy close collaboration between our teams, ensuring projects move smoothly from discovery to design to delivery. We recognise the crucial link between digital and data, creating intelligent services that leverage both.

We work with a range of clients across the Scottish and UK public and private sectors.

About the Role

We're looking for a Test Engineer to join our team working on a large-scale, safety‑critical public sector digital transformation programme. This is a significant initiative focused on replacing legacy processes with a modern digital service, offering a genuine opportunity to contribute to work that has real‑world impact at national scale.

You'll be part of a small, experienced test team within Storm ID, working in blended squads alongside client staff. The test strategy, automation framework and tooling are established and owned by senior test engineers. This is a hands‑on delivery role where you'll execute and extend within that framework from day one, with clear scope to deepen your specialism as the programme progresses.

Essential Experience

  • Agile Test Delivery: Solid experience as a Test Engineer within sprint-based delivery teams
  • API Testing: Hands‑on experience testing REST APIs using Postman or similar
  • Test Automation: Working experience writing and maintaining automated tests; Playwright preferred, or strong Cypress/Selenium experience with willingness to transition
  • Test Management: Experience with structured test management tooling (Azure DevOps Test Plans or equivalent) including requirements‑to‑defect traceability
  • Documentation Discipline: Diligent approach to test evidence and records; this programme carries formal audit and governance requirements
  • Defect Management: Raises, describes and tracks defects clearly, articulating impact and risk

Desirable

  • Regulated Environments: Exposure to healthcare, public sector or other safety‑critical/regulated delivery
  • Healthcare Interoperability: Familiarity with HL7 FHIR or similar standards
  • BDD: Experience with Given/When/Then, SpecFlow, Cucumber or similar
  • SQL / Database Queries: Experience querying databases to verify test data
  • CI/CD: Familiarity with automated test execution within pipelines
  • Git: Comfortable working with repositories and version control

Soft Skills / Ways of Working

  • Quality Advocate: Champions quality throughout the delivery lifecycle, not just at the end
  • Collaborative: Comfortable working in blended squads with client staff
  • Self‑Sufficient: Delivers within an established framework with minimal hand‑holding
  • AI-Enabled Working: Comfortable using AI tools as part of day‑to‑day testing and delivery work
  • Willing to Learn: Engages with new domains and technologies proactively
  • Communication: Articulates findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

During this programme, you will have the opportunity to develop the following skills

  • Advanced test automation within a Playwright-based framework and BDD layer
  • CI/CD quality gates and automated test execution at scale
  • Testing FHIR‑based healthcare integrations across multiple supplier systems
  • Clinical safety testing and DCB 0129/0160 standards in practice
  • Accessibility, performance and non‑functional testing on a national service
  • Requirements‑to‑defect traceability supporting a formal clinical safety case

Benefits

We believe in rewarding our people for the great work that they do. The benefits we offer include:

  • 33 days of leave - that includes 4 statutory days over Christmas and New Year, with all other bank holidays included as regular leave you can take whenever you want
  • paid training and development (after 3 months)
  • performance related pay (after 1 year)
  • private medical insurance with BUPA (after 1 year)
