Job Title: Team Leader (Assistant Home Manager) — Children's Residential Home Salary: £36,000 – £38,000 per annum Hours: 37.5 hours/week including occasional sleep-in shifts, evenings and weekends Location:Greenhithe - Dartford Reports to: Registered Manager / Home manager About the Role We're looking for a Team Leader to help lead and support our staff team in delivering high-quality, therapeutic care to children and young people in our residential home. This role sits just above a Deputy Manager level and is ideal for an experienced Deputy ready to take the next step into a more formal leadership position, or for someone already operating at Assistant Home Manager level looking for a new home. You'll take the lead on shifts, support and develop junior staff, and help embed consistent, high-quality practice across the home, working closely with the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager. Key Responsibilities Lead shifts and provide day-to-day direction to the staff team, acting as a role model for good practice Directly line manage a small team of Support Workers/Residential Child Care Workers, including supervision, appraisals, and performance management Support the delivery of individual care and placement plans, keeping children's welfare and safety central Support, coach and mentor staff, helping build confidence and skill within the team Participate in the on-call/sleep-in rota, including evenings and weekends as required Help maintain compliance with Ofsted standards, the home's Statement of Purpose, and relevant regulations Contribute to incident management, risk assessments and safeguarding processes Support recruitment, induction and training of new staff Deputise for the Deputy Manager/Registered Manager as needed Essential Requirements Experience working in children's residential care Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) — essential Proven line management or supervisory experience, ideally within a care setting Strong understanding of safeguarding, child development, and relevant regulatory frameworks (Ofsted, Children's Homes Regulations) Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and occasional sleep-in shifts A full, valid UK driving licence (if relevant to your service) Desirable Working towards or holding a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) Experience deputising for a manager or covering shift-lead responsibilities Experience with young people who have complex or trauma-related needs
