The role sits within the UK Engineering department based at Great Western Road (GWR). UK Engineering is part of the Edrington Global Supply Chain function.
The Multiskilled Line Engineer (Nightshift) is responsible for ensuring the consistent, safe, and efficient operation of production lines during overnight hours. This role plays a critical part in maintaining equipment reliability through a balance of preventative and reactive maintenance, while minimising downtime and supporting production targets.
Working with a high degree of autonomy, the engineer acts as the primary engineering support on shift, quickly diagnosing and resolving issues to maintain output and quality standards. In addition, the role contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, helping to enhance equipment performance and operational efficiency, while ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and quality standards in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Make an Impact
- Carry out reactive maintenance to resolve equipment breakdowns quickly and minimise production disruption
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with schedules to ensure equipment reliability
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system faults across production and packaging lines
- Provide on‑shift engineering support to production teams to keep lines running efficiently
- Work closely with operators to troubleshoot issues and support real‑time problem solving
- Support line start‑ups, shut‑downs, and changeovers to ensure smooth transitions between production runs
- Monitor equipment performance and identify early signs of potential failure
- Take ownership of engineering issues during nightshift, acting as the key point of contact with limited onsite support
- Escalate complex or unresolved issues appropriately, ensuring minimal impact to operations
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to reduce downtime and improve line efficiency
- Contribute to root cause analysis and long‑term problem‑solving activities
- Maintain high standards of health and safety, ensuring compliance with all site procedures and regulations
Your Talent and Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems within a manufacturing or bottling environment
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out effective root cause analysis
- Experience with PLCs, automation systems, sensors, and control equipment
- Proficiency in preventative and reactive maintenance techniques
- Solid understanding of health & safety regulations and safe systems of work
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to make decisions independently (particularly on nightshift)
- Effective communication skills for working with production teams and ensuring clear shift handovers
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively in a fast‑paced environment
- Continuous improvement mindset with experience of lean or efficiency‑focused initiatives
- Excellent workshop skills, including fabrication and machining experience
