Fractional Finance Director (3 Days) – Construction SMEs Only

£60,000 – £65,000 pro rata | Board Exposure | North West
If you've built your career in construction and enjoy being at the centre of decision-making — this is exactly the role most accountants look for, but rarely find.
We're working with a high-growth, award-winning advisory business supporting construction SMEs (£2m–£12m turnover) — and they need a hands-on Fractional Finance Director who understands how these businesses actually operate.
Let's Be Clear – This Is NOT a Practice Role No pure reporting
No hiding behind year-end
No corporate layers
This is proper SME finance — fast-moving, hands-on, and commercially focused.
The Role Working 3 days per week , you'll take ownership of a portfolio of construction SME clients and act as their trusted Finance Director .
Deliver management accounts that drive action , not just reporting
Lead cashflow, forecasting, and financial planning
Present to owners, MDs, and boards
Drive project costing, WIP, and profitability
Challenge and influence commercial decisions
Improve systems and processes ( Xero, Fathom, Dext )
You'll be in the detail and at the table — exactly where SME FDs add value. xwzovoh
Non-Negotiables Qualified accountant ( ACA / ACCA / CIMA )
Proven experience in construction and SMEs
Strong understanding of: WIP / cost-to-complete
Project costing & margins
Track record of presenting to and influencing senior stakeholders
Comfortable operating in a hands-on, unstructured SME environment
Who This Suits A current or recent senior finance professional / FD / FC / No.1 finance person with experience in construction and SME's
Someone who enjoys: Being close to the business
Making decisions, not just reporting them
Working directly with owners
The Setup 3 days per week (part-time)
Remote-first with travel to attend monthly board meetings in the North West
Must be based in the North West / Greater Manchester area
