Job Title: Learning Support Mentor

Contract type: Long term

Location: North Manchester

Start Date: Immediate Start

Our specialist partner school in North Manchester is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Mentor to join their team. In this role, you will work closely with students aged 11 to 18 who have Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and other complex behavioural needs. Due to the nature of this setting, we are looking for resilient, caring, and empathetic professionals who place student wellbeing at the heart of their work.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one support for students with ASD and complex needs, following specific instructions within Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Assist students with daily personal care requirements, including feeding, toileting, and mobility support.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviour and maintain a calm classroom environment.
  • Support the class teacher by preparing sensory resources and adapted learning materials.
  • Monitor the physical well-being of students with complex medical needs and report any changes to the school nursing team.
  • Encourage student independence through the use of communication aids and social modelling.
  • Help students transition between lessons and therapy sessions throughout the school day.

Requirements

    • Minimum of 6 months UK experience supporting children or young people with SEN, specifically Complex Needs and SEMH.
    • Valid Team Teach qualification (Essential for this position).
    • Experience working within a secondary school or high school environment is highly desirable.
    • Competence and confidence in providing personal care and using moving and handling equipment.
    • Solid understanding of safeguarding procedures and the ability to recognise and report concerns immediately.
    • Ability to communicate clearly with staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced Children and Adults DBS on the update service (or willingness to process a new application).
