We are recruiting a Project Manager to support the delivery of rail freight and rolling stock projects, covering both new product development and maintenance-focused contracts. This is a highly operational, site-focused role, suited to someone who enjoys being close to the action, working with manufacturing, installation and commissioning teams, and driving projects through to completion.
The project portfolio is growing rapidly, with 2–3 active projects expanding to 12+ projects over the next year, offering long-term stability and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of rail projects from definition through to completion
- Act as the primary point of contact for customers and internal stakeholders
- Manage project scope, schedules, resources and budgets
- Work closely with manufacturing and assembly teams based in Melksham, actively chasing progress and resolving issues
- Support on-site installation and commissioning, including UK-wide travel as required
- Track project deliverables using appropriate tools and report regularly to senior management
- Manage HSEQ, risk and change control in line with rail and customer standards
- Maximise opportunities through the project change process
- Build and maintain strong working relationships across engineering, production and external partners
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Project Manager in an operational, engineering or maintenance environment
- Rail industry experience is strongly preferred, particularly:
- Rolling stock
- Freight fleets
- Depot or maintenance-based projects
- Comfortable managing tough contracts and demanding customers
- Strong commercial awareness, including project cost and contract management
- More action-orientated than paperwork-driven, with a hands-on delivery mindset
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and emotional intelligence
- Able to adapt quickly in a fast-moving, sometimes high-pressure environment
- Willing to travel UK-wide (primarily short bursts aligned to project phases)
Package & Benefits
- Salary circa £50,000 per annum
- Discretionary annual bonus
- Pool car provided for business travel; all expenses reimbursed
- Flexibility for remote working, although the role is predominantly site-based
- Support, training and long-term development opportunities
- Stable business with a strong track record in rail engineering
