About the role

Halifax £40.00 per hour Full Time Lynx Employment is recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and motivated Principal Planning Enforcement Officer to join their Planning Enforcement team in Halifax on a temporary full-time basis until 31st October 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional to manage complex enforcement cases, support team performance, and play a key role in delivering an effective and joined-up enforcement service. Main Duties & Responsibilities * Investigate alleged breaches of planning control, including highly complex and sensitive cases. * Assess cases in accordance with planning legislation and policy, making recommendations on formal enforcement action including notices and prosecutions. * Act as case officer for retrospective planning applications where relevant to enforcement case resolution. * Support negotiations to achieve acceptable planning outcomes and resolutions. * Represent the Council at planning hearings, inquiries, and court proceedings. * Liaise with legal advisors and internal colleagues to coordinate enforcement cases effectively. * Assist the Team Leader with the development and implementation of enforcement policies and service improvements, including enhanced use of ICT systems. * Support team performance management by monitoring caseloads and average resolution times. * Work collaboratively with Environmental Health, Building Control, Highways, and other enforcement teams to ensure a coordinated corporate approach. * Mentor and advise junior colleagues on planning enforcement matters and support their professional development. * Authorise formal enforcement action where appropriate in line with the Council’s scheme of delegation. * Deputise for the Team Leader when required. Essential Requirements * Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant professional experience. * Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes. * Strong knowledge of planning enforcement legislation, procedures, and policy. * Experience managing complex planning enforcement cases. * Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills. * Experience representing organisations at hearings, inquiries, or court proceedings. * Ability to work independently while contributing positively to team performance
