Key Stage 1 (KS1) Teaching Assistant Location: Bishop Auckland, County Durham Hours: Full-Time (Term Time Only) About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Key Stage 1 within a welcoming primary school in Bishop Auckland. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with children in Years 1 and 2, helping to build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and social development. You will work closely with the class teacher to create a positive and engaging learning environment where every child can thrive. Key Responsibilities Support the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons in line with the Key Stage 1 curriculum Work with small groups and individual pupils to reinforce learning Assist with phonics, reading, writing, and basic maths skills Help manage classroom behaviour and promote a positive learning environment Support pupils with additional needs, including SEND where required Prepare classroom resources and maintain a tidy, organised learning space Supervise pupils during break times and transitions Contribute to pupil progress tracking and feedback Essential: Experience working with children in a school or similar setting Good understanding of Key Stage 1 curriculum expectations Strong communication and teamwork skills Patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths Desirable: Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification We also consider unqualified as long as you have experience  Experience delivering phonics programmes (e.g. Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds) Experience supporting children with SEND Key Skills & Qualities Positive and caring attitude Strong organisational skills Ability to use initiative and work independently Commitment to supporting children’s learning and wellbeing Safeguarding The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
