Autism Support Worker (Male Only)
Salisbury, Wiltshire | Full-Time | Up to £40,680 per year
We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist supported living provider for a male Autism Support Worker to support a non-verbal adult with autism and complex emotional needs in his own home.
This role is male only due to a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK, as sponsorship is not available for this role.
Autism Support Worker Pay & Benefits
£18.00 per hour (enhanced rate due to senior responsibility)
Up to £40,680 annual package (based on full rota commitment)
Sleep-ins paid at £89.10 per night
6 weeks fully paid annual leave (above statutory)

Pension and potential pay reviews
Weekend hours are open to negotiation.
The advertised salary is based on completing all scheduled weekends. A reduced weekend commitment can be agreed, with the overall salary adjusted accordingly.
Autism Support Worker Shift Pattern (Structured Annual Rota)
Standard Week (No Worked Weekend)
22 paid day hours + 4 sleep-ins
Monday: Evening shift from approx. 8:00pm + sleep‑in
Tuesday–Thursday:
Morning: 8:30am–10:00am
Evening: 6:00pm–sleep‑in
Friday: 8:30am–10:00am
Week With a Worked Weekend
56.5 paid day hours + 6 sleep-ins
Friday: 2:00pm–sleep‑in
Saturday: 8:30am–6:00pm
Sunday: 10:00am–sleep‑in
Monday: 8:30am–2:00pm
Only 8 weekends per year
Not a live-in role
Annual rota provided well in advance
Autism Support Worker Role
You’ll provide hands-on, person-centred support and assist the Service Team Manager with the day-to-day running of this bespoke service. When the manager is off shift, you’ll act as the senior support presence on site.
No regular medication or personal care required
Company automatic car provided while on shift
Permanent, long-term role in a highly specialist environment

Autism Support Worker Recruitment Process
Due to the complex nature of the role, the client operates a thorough recruitment process to ensure the right match:
Initial phone call to discuss the role
30–60 minute meet and greet with the service user and Service Team Manager, followed by a first interview
Second interview (approx. 2 hours) with more in‑depth discussion about the service
Third and fourth interviews, giving candidates additional time to spend with the service user and Service Team Manager, helping both parties assess compatibility and working style in a relaxed, supportive setting
Paid training and shadow shifts commence if an offer is made
Candidates are encouraged to spend time with the service user and team before committing, ensuring the placement is right for everyone.
