In this role, the Technical Supervisor is the senior technical authority responsible for the performance, compliance, and technical delivery of AOV and smoke ventilation systems.
This role oversees complex fault diagnosis, commissioning validation, and control system integrity while supervising engineering teams.
The Technical Supervisor ensures systems operate in accordance with cause & effect, fire strategy, and regulatory standards.
The role requires advanced working knowledge of specialist systems including Advance Air, Colt, Action Air, and SC Controls, along with strong expertise in control panels, system logic, and integration.
Key Responsibilities Act as the primary technical escalation point for Level 13 Engineers.
Interpret and validate cause & effect matrices against system operation and fire strategy.
Lead complex fault finding across panels, field devices, wiring, and system interfaces.
Oversee and validate commissioning of smoke control and AOV systems.
Ensure correct system configuration, sequencing, and fail-safe operation.
Demonstrate advanced knowledge across system types: natural AOVs, mechanical systems, smoke shafts, powered vents, fire curtains, and smoke dampers.
Provide specialist technical support on systems including Advance Air, Colt, Action Air, and SC Controls.
Perform advanced diagnostics on control panels, including signal tracing, input/output validation, and system logic verification.
Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of smoke dampers, including operation, control interfaces, fail-safe positions, testing requirements, and fault diagnosis.
Support or carry out panel configuration adjustments where required.
Understand and verify integration with fire alarm systems, dampers, fans, and BMS interfaces.
Review and approve inspection reports, commissioning records, and remedial recommendations.
Ensure all works comply with BS EN 12101, BS 9999, and manufacturer requirements.
Conduct technical audits and site quality checks.
Supervise and mentor engineers, supporting development across Level 13 roles.
Liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants on technical matters.
Review RAMS and ensure safe systems of work are followed.
Maintain high standards of documentation, reporting, and system traceability.
Requirements Extensive experience in AOV / smoke ventilation systems.
Proven expertise in: Advance Air, Colt systems, Action Air & SC Controls Advanced fault-finding and diagnostic capability.
Strong understanding of control systems, cause & effect, and smoke damper operation and integration.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system drawings.
