The Opportunity
We’re supporting a globally recognised aerospace organisation in the search for a Senior Avionics Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Oxford.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced avionics professional to take technical ownership of the design, integration, certification, and continued airworthiness of advanced aircraft systems within a highly regulated environment.
You’ll play a key role in translating customer requirements into certified engineering solutions, supporting cutting-edge aviation programmes across civil and defence platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the concept, design, and integration of avionics systems to meet customer requirements
- Translate high-level requirements into detailed, certifiable engineering solutions
- Apply Systems Engineering processes, methods, and tools throughout the design lifecycle
- Manage avionics activities across multiple projects in a cross-functional environment
- Ensure compliance with certification standards and validation/verification processes
- Support continued airworthiness and design assurance obligations
- Produce technical documentation, compliance evidence, and substantiation reports
- Liaise with production, customers, and suppliers to deliver practical solutions
- Define and support ground/flight test activities
What We’re Looking For
- Strong background in avionics design engineering within aerospace or aviation
- Detailed knowledge of aircraft avionics systems (rotary-wing experience advantageous)
- Understanding of certification frameworks such as FAR/CS 27/29, EASA/CAA Part 21J, and/or military airworthiness standards
- Knowledge of aircraft systems safety and software safety processes
- Experience using AutoCAD or similar CAD tools for electrical/harness design
- Familiarity with xwzovoh design lifecycle and configuration management tools
- Able to manage technical complexity across multiple concurrent projects
Qualifications
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience
- Apprenticeship or formal technical training beneficial
- Professionally accredited or working towards accreditation preferred
