Wintel Infrastructure Engineer Location: London, UK (Onsite – 5 days per week) Contract: 6 months Rate: £425 – £465 per day (Inside IR35) Unit: Cyber Security We are working with a leading global IT services organisation to hire a Wintel Infrastructure Engineer to join a high-impact Cyber Security and infrastructure transformation programme in London. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on enterprise Windows infrastructure and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), supporting secure engineering environments across hybrid on-prem and Azure platforms. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting secure Windows-based engineering workspaces with strong emphasis on identity, access control, and automation. Key Responsibilities * Design and support Windows 10/11 Virtual Desktop environments for engineering users * Manage hybrid VDI platforms across on-premises and Azure environments * Administer Windows Server infrastructure including build, patching, configuration, and lifecycle management * Maintain and support Active Directory (AD DS), including GPO, DNS, DHCP, and identity governance * Implement secure access models using RBAC and least privilege principles * Support AD tiering, privileged access controls, and security remediation activities * Automate infrastructure tasks using PowerShell scripting * Provide L2/L3 support, incident resolution, and root cause analysis * Support change management (CAB) and controlled production deployments * Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity * Collaborate with security, cloud, and application teams on transformation initiatives Key Skills Required * Strong Windows Server engineering experience in enterprise environments * Deep expertise in Active Directory (users, groups, GPOs, DNS, DHCP) * Experience with VDI platforms (Azure Virtual Desktop, Citrix, RDS, or similar) * Strong understanding of hybrid environments (on-prem + Azure / Entra ID) * PowerShell scripting and automation experience * Knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware or Hyper-V) * Experience with infrastructure security, hardening, and vulnerability remediation * ITIL-based operational experience (Incident, Change, Problem Management) * Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills in large-scale environments Desirable Experience * Azure Virtual Desktop and Azure-integrated infrastructure * Entra ID / identity governance and conditional access * Infrastructure automation tools (ARM, Bicep, or similar) * Monitoring and logging tools (Azure Monitor, SIEM platforms) * Experience in regulated or high-compliance enterprise environments
