Social Housing Assessment & Lettings Officer

Wembley | Hybrid Working

Standard DBS required

A Wembley-based Local Authority is seeking an experienced Social Housing Assessment & Lettings Officer to join their team on a temporary contract until August, with the potential for extension.

This is a full-time role (Monday to Friday), operating on a hybrid basis with 3 days per week in the office.

Pay Rates

  • £21.41 per hour (PAYE)
  • £28.19 per hour (Umbrella)

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out housing needs assessments in line with housing legislation and local authority policy
  • Assess applications for social housing, including eligibility, priority and banding
  • Manage a caseload of applicants and provide clear advice on housing options
  • Allocate properties in accordance with the housing allocations scheme
  • Liaise with applicants, internal teams, housing providers and external agencies
  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with data protection requirements
  • Respond to enquiries and appeals in a timely and professional manner
  • Contribute to service improvement and performance targets

Essential Experience & Requirements

  • Previous experience in housing assessments, allocations or lettings within a local authority or social housing environment
  • Good understanding of housing legislation, homelessness duties and allocations schemes
  • Experience managing complex caseloads and working to deadlines
  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to make sound decisions and explain outcomes clearly to customers
  • Confident IT skills and experience using housing management systems
  • Standard DBS check required
