Teaching Assistant (1:1 SEMH Support)

Full Time | From £95 per day | Start Date: After Easter

A primary school in Doncaster is seeking a resilient, compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a child presenting complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is ideal for someone who thrives when supporting vulnerable children and understands the importance of consistency, trust and trauma-informed practice.

Key Requirements

  • Strong understanding of SEMH and the challenges it presents
  • Experience using de-escalation and proactive behaviour strategies
  • Good knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable children
  • Trauma-informed practice (desirable but not essential)
  • High levels of resilience, patience and empathy
  • Ability to build safe, trusting relationships
  • Confident working with children who may display dysregulation or distressed behaviour

Role Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 support tailored to a child with complex SEMH needs
  • Supporting emotional regulation, communication and engagement
  • Implementing consistent routines and behaviour strategies
  • Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and external support professionals
  • Creating a safe, nurturing and predictable environment
  • Recording safeguarding and behavioural concerns where appropriate
