Teaching Assistant (1:1 SEMH Support)

Full Time | From £95 per day | Start Date: After Easter

A primary school in Scunthorpe is looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will be calm under pressure, emotionally intelligent and confident in supporting vulnerable pupils who require consistency, structure and understanding.

Key Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of SEMH and behaviour support approaches
  • Confident safeguarding knowledge and understanding of vulnerability
  • Experience or awareness of trauma-informed practice (desirable)
  • High levels of resilience and emotional stability
  • Empathetic, patient and supportive approach
  • Ability to form positive, trusting relationships
  • Comfortable supporting a child who may experience heightened emotions or behavioural challenges

Role Responsibilities

  • Delivering 1:1 tailored support throughout the school day
  • Supporting emotional regulation, de-escalation and positive behaviour
  • Encouraging engagement in learning and structured routines
  • Collaborating with staff, SEND teams and external professionals
  • Maintaining a safe, predictable environment for the pupil
  • Contributing to safeguarding processes and documentation
