Manufacturing Systems Engineer Location: Tamworth, Staffordshire Hours: Days, site-based, Early Finish Friday Salary: £38,000 - £45,000 Employment Type: Permanent We are seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to join a precision engineering business supplying products to some of the world’s most demanding industries, including automotive, aerospace, motorsport, oil and gas, marine, and defence. The successful candidate will play a key role in connecting production planning, manufacturing engineering, and quality systems to ensure products are delivered on time, to the required standard, and in line with Quality, Cost, and Delivery targets. The role Reporting into the Works Manager and Operations Director, you will support the full manufacturing lifecycle from planning and process development through to quality assurance and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on role with strong interaction across planning, engineering, quality, and production teams. Key responsibilities Production planning and coordination Create and manage production schedules to meet customer demand and delivery targets. Monitor production progress and address delays, constraints, and bottlenecks. Maintain accurate ERP/MRP data, including routes, lead times, and capacity. Liaise with Production, Purchasing, and Engineering to ensure materials and resources are available. Support lead time reduction initiatives and adherence to production plans.Manufacturing and production engineering Provide day-to-day engineering support to the shop floor. Produce and maintain process documentation including PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Charts, and SOPs. Apply lean manufacturing principles such as SMED, 5S, and waste reduction. Support Design for Manufacture activity. Help ensure processes are controlled, documented, and auditable.Quality and continuous improvement Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions. Monitor and improve quality KPIs. Ensure compliance with specifications and inspection requirements. Promote a strong quality culture across production. Identify and implement improvements to reduce waste, cost, and lead time. Support cross-functional improvement projects and standardisation initiatives.Team support and communication Support production teams in achieving daily targets. Train and guide operators during process changes. Act as a link between Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Production. Promote 5S and good workplace organisation.What we are looking for Essential experience HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent. At least 3 years’ experience in a CNC machining environment. Experience with ERP/MRP systems. Manufacturing process development experience. Knowledge of quality tools such as PFMEA, Control Plans, and Root Cause Analysis. Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.Desirable knowledge Apprenticeship-trained engineer. Experience with CNC turning and milling machines, ideally 3–5 axis. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Creo, Mastercam, or Edgecam.
