Reception Learning Support Worker – CardiffStart Date: SeptemberHours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pmContract: Term-time only (approx. 12 weeks off per year)
We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Worker to join a welcoming primary school in Cardiff, supporting children within a Reception class.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about early years education who is looking to make a real impact during the most important stages of a child’s development.
The Role
You will be working closely with the class teacher to support pupils aged 4–5, helping to create a nurturing, engaging, and safe learning environment. The role will involve both general classroom support and working 1:1 or in small groups with children who may need additional guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting children with early learning skills including phonics, reading, and basic numeracy
- Assisting with classroom activities through play-based learning
- Providing 1:1 support where required, including children with additional learning needs
- Encouraging positive behaviour and social development
- Supporting the teacher with classroom preparation and daily routines
- Ensuring the safeguarding and wellbeing of all pupils at all times
Requirements
- Experience working with children (school, nursery, childcare, or similar)
- Strong understanding of Early Years/Foundation Phase learning
- A patient, caring, and proactive approach
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children’s development
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience working with SEN/ALN
- Relevant qualifications in childcare or education
- Knowledge of phonics programmes and early learning strategies
