Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity for 5 Administrative Officers to join our Wales Field Operations Team. You will be providing support to managers and frontline staff by undertaking transactional work in a particular area.
We Are Currently Offering:
2 x Permanent full time posts.
1 x Permanent part time (0.8 FTE) post.
1 x Permanent part time (0.6 FTE) post.
1 x Fixed Term Appointment/Loan/Secondment full time post.
The main duties within your role will include the following:
Delivery
Collaborative delivery — Work with remote teams across GB to support the Business Unit’s core functions, meeting agreed timescales and performance targets while maintaining accurate records and data across APHA systems.
Process efficiency — Identify improvements within your team or wider business unit, review procedures regularly, and elevate issues that may impact delivery to your Line Manager.
Adaptability and flexibility — Adapt to changing priorities and take on additional tasks with commitment and a positive approach.
Administration
Administrative ownership — Manage assigned administrative procedures, ensuring all actions are completed accurately, on time, and in line with required processes.
Office and business support — Provide a range of administrative support including organising meetings, taking notes, updating distribution lists, coordinating training, and monitoring shared mailboxes.
Handling enquiries — Respond to telephone and written queries, follow up unresolved enquiries, update customer records, and complete associated processing and documentation.
Guidance to others — Support internal and external colleagues by explaining procedures and resolving or escalating queries appropriately.
Customer Service
Stakeholder liaison — Provide excellent customer service to stakeholders, delivery partners, and customers, including farmers, veterinary practices, and laboratories (where relevant to TB Operational Delivery roles).
Information and data accuracy — Respond to public requests for information, provide accurate and timely guidance, and ensure customer data held on APHA systems is correct and up to date.
Meeting expectations — Ensure customer needs are understood and expectations are met throughout all interactions.
Person specification
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following essential experience and skills;
- Confident in using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Excel, Word) with a good level of overall IT literacy.
- Well‑organised, with the ability to manage tasks and priorities effectively.
- Adaptable and able to respond positively to change.
- Focused on delivering excellent customer service.
- Accurate when inputting data and maintaining records, both digital and paper-based.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey information clearly.
- Proactive approach to work, showing initiative and reliability.

Alongside your salary of £26,025, Animal and Plant Health Agency contributes £7,539 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
