Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity to join our expanding team within the department of Oral Surgery at Guys Hospital. Applicants are invited for 2 fixed‑term full‑time posts in Oral Surgery. The post‑holder will undertake outpatient clinic sessions and provide LA and IV treatment independently at a junior specialty dentist level. They will also be expected to assess and treat patients in Acute Dental Care and to be actively involved in regular audits, service improvement projects and QIPs within the department.

Successful candidates will agree to a flexible pattern of working in the future in accordance with the new Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Speciality Dentist contract. Successful completion of IELTS is the accepted minimum language requirement.

Job responsibilities

• Provide service in Oral Surgery at GSTFT in accordance with Trust guidelines and strategy of both GSTFT and KCL Dental Institute.
• Assist in service delivery planning and service management.
• Participate in clinical and other service activities with the objective of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
• Take an active part in KCL undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.

Professional Qualifications

• Full GDC registration.
• One or more of the following or equivalent qualifications: FDS RCS/MFDS RCS/MFJDP.

Clinical Experience

• Two years post‑qualification with one year of oral surgery experience.
• Experience in oral surgical treatment under local anaesthetic and intravenous sedation.
• Experience in treating medically compromised patients.
• Basic life support (BLS).
• Contribution to guidelines or protocols for delivering oral surgery patients.
• Experience contributing to a multidisciplinary team.

Audit, Management & IT

• Understanding of clinical governance and risk management in the secondary care setting.
• Evidence of participation in audit including implementation of outcomes (at least one audit project in last 12 months).

Research, Teaching, Skills & Experience

• Awareness of the role of research in dentistry.
• Experience delivering chair‑side teaching to undergraduate dental students.
• Involvement in or knowledge of research relevant to Oral Surgery.
• Possession of a focused personal research plan.
• Presentations at national meetings.
• Knowledge of research ethics.

• Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Dental Practice set out by the General Dental Council.

Salary: £63,696 to £102,689 a year (excl. LZ)
