About the role
️ Lead MEICA Commissioning Engineer | Clean Water Projects | Affinity Water Region
Outside IR35 | Long-Term AMP8 Programme
Leadership Role | Commissioning Strategy | Team Management
Some commissioning roles are about witnessing tests and signing paperwork.
This one is about leading people, driving standards, and bringing structure to projects before problems ever reach site.
A leading Tier 1 contractor delivering clean water projects across the Affinity Water region is looking for a Lead MEICA Commissioning Engineer to oversee commissioning delivery across a portfolio of schemes typically ranging from £5m–£10m.
While the individual projects may not be mega-projects, they need someone who has operated at that level before.
Someone who understands what “good” looks like on major infrastructure programmes and can bring that level of leadership, planning, coordination, and control into a growing AMP8 delivery environment.
This is a role for a true commissioning leader — somebody capable of managing teams, influencing delivery strategy, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and creating a commissioning culture rather than simply attending the final phase of works.
🌊 The Role
* You’ll work across multiple clean water schemes, leading commissioning activities from early planning through to final handover.
* The position sits across both pre-construction and live delivery, giving you influence over programme strategy, design coordination, commissioning readiness, and operational integration.
* You’ll also play a key role mentoring and supporting commissioning engineers across the wider programme.
🔧 What You’ll Be Doing
• Leading commissioning planning and delivery across multiple £5m–£10m clean water projects
• Developing commissioning programmes, procedures, documentation, and test strategies
• Driving commissioning input through design and pre-construction phases
• Managing and supporting commissioning engineers and site teams
• Coordinating across MEICA, civils, operations, suppliers, and subcontractors
• Acting as the key interface between client, delivery, and operational stakeholders
• Supporting project teams with sequencing, commissioning readiness, and risk mitigation
• Ensuring safe, structured, and efficient project handovers
🛠 What They’re Looking For
This role would suit somebody who has previously worked within major project or large-scale infrastructure environments and can now bring that experience into a leadership-focused regional role.
You’ll ideally have:
• Strong MEICA commissioning experience within the UK water sector
• Experience leading commissioning teams or managing commissioning functions
• Background working on major infrastructure or complex project delivery environments
• Strong planning and programme awareness
• Ability to mentor, coordinate, and drive standards across multiple projects
• Electrical bias preferred, though mechanical backgrounds are also considered
• Experience producing commissioning procedures and integrated delivery plans
• SMSTS / CSCS and full UK driving licence
