Role Overview
This role sits within Jameel Motors UK Auto Retail and is at the centre of an exciting new partnership between Jameel Motors and GAC. You will be working specifically on the AION brand, supporting its entry into the UK market as GAC’s dedicated electric vehicle line.
As a High Voltage Technician, you will diagnose, test, repair and commission live high‑voltage systems on electric and hybrid vehicles, including battery packs, inverters, onboard chargers, DC/DC converters and HV contactor/control circuits.
With Level 4 certification, you will work on energised HV systems and lead safe systems of work in accordance with IMI standards and HSE guidance (EV high voltage typically 60–1500 V DC). You will set the benchmark for workshop safety, technical quality and right‑first‑time fixes on advanced EV platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out advanced diagnostics and repairs on high‑voltage systems, including traction batteries, power electronics, isolation faults, and thermal management.
- Perform safe live‑work and isolation procedures in line with IMI Level 4 standards, ensuring correct lock‑out/tag‑out, verification of zero energy and controlled re‑energisation.
- Lead the workshop’s HV safe system of work, overseeing PPE checks, tool control, cordons and team briefings to protect all personnel.
- Complete battery module removal/refit and permitted internal repairs, supported by accurate, audit‑ready documentation.
- Ensure full compliance with HSE EV safety expectations and maintain all HV equipment, calibration logs and inspection records.
- Produce clear diagnostic reports, test results and commissioning documents and support warranty or recall processes for HV components.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- IMI Level 4 EV/Hybrid Diagnosis, Testing & Repair (or international equivalent), supported by prior IMI Level 3.
- Hands‑on experience diagnosing traction batteries, power electronics, HV interlock issues and isolation faults using EV‑safe test methods (incl. insulation resistance testing).
- Strong safety discipline: correct PPE use, lock‑out/tag‑out and controlled work‑area management in line with HSE EV guidance.
- Confident interpreting wiring diagrams, BMS data and following structured diagnostic processes with accurate, audit‑ready documentation.
Desirable
- Awareness of IET electrical safety principles and relevant BS 7671‑aligned workshop practices.
- Experience mentoring colleagues and contributing to EV safety or upskilling initiatives.
