Overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel to join the Commercial Finance division of a global financial services group. This is a specialist, commercially focused role supporting a well-established UK business that forms part of a wider international platform operating across multiple jurisdictions.

The position has been newly structured with a clear focus on receivables finance (a subset of trade finance), offering the successful candidate the opportunity to take ownership of a key area of legal work and play an integral role in bringing more activity in-house.

The Role

You will act as the primary legal contact for the Commercial Finance business in Glasgow, while working closely with the wider UK and international legal teams.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Advising on receivables finance and broader trade finance matters
• Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating client and funding documentation
• Supporting the structuring and execution of financing transactions
• Managing relationships with external counsel and reducing reliance on outsourced legal work
• Providing legal input on a range of commercial, corporate, and procurement matters
• Partnering closely with business stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, commercially focused advice

Team & Structure

• Sole Commercial Finance lawyer based in Glasgow
• Embedded within a wider, supportive legal function
• Regular interaction with senior legal leadership and international stakeholders
• Close collaboration with the UK Commercial Finance team

Candidate Profile

• Qualified lawyer in England & Wales
• Experience in:
• Trade finance
• Receivables finance (highly desirable)
• Asset-based lending (ABL)
• Strong understanding of financial products and the UK financing market xwzovoh
• Ability to operate autonomously while remaining collaborative
• Commercially minded with strong stakeholder management skills

Experience Level

• Ideally circa 3–5 PQE, though flexibility can be considered for the right candidate
