Housing Options Officer

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Housing Options Officer to join a London local authority on a temporary basis.The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive housing advice and assistance to households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, carrying out detailed assessments and identifying appropriate housing solutions.Key responsibilitiesConduct homelessness assessments and determine eligibility under the Housing Act 1996Provide comprehensive housing advice and guidance to applicants who are homeless or threatened with homelessnessDevelop and review Personalised Housing Plans in line with statutory dutiesAssess applications under the prevention and relief duties and make appropriate decisionsInvestigate homelessness cases and gather relevant evidence to support decisionsWork with applicants to identify suitable accommodation and prevent homelessness wherever possibleLiaise with landlords, housing associations, private sector providers and internal council teamsMake referrals and signpost applicants to appropriate support servicesMaintain accurate case records and ensure cases are progressed within statutory timescalesHandle complex and challenging cases while delivering a high-quality customer-focused serviceRequirementsPrevious experience working as a Housing Options Officer or within a homelessness serviceStrong knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017Experience conducting homelessness assessments and making statutory decisionsKnowledge of prevention and relief duties, PHPs and temporary accommodationExcellent communication, organisational and case management skillsIf you are an experienced Housing Options Officer looking for your next opportunity within a London local authority, please get in touch.
